UPDATE: The man who died during a wreck Sunday evening on Lookout Mountain has been identified. Georgia State Patrol identified the driver as 41- year old Wesley Ron Davenport of Rossville, GA. Davenport, was driving westbound on Hwy 136 E, traveling too fast according to the report, when he lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve. The GSP report says that Davenport’s vehicle veered into oncoming traffic where it was struck by another vehicle carrying a family from Flat Rock, AL. Davenport’s vehicle caught fire with Davenport trapped inside. Davenport was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A wreck with one fatality on Lookout Mountain Sunday afternoon is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
The two vehicle accident occurred on Sunday around 5:30 p.m. on Highway 136 E. A 42 year old Rossville man lost control of his vehicle which struck another vehicle carrying a husband, wife and infant. The vehicle being driving by the Rossville man caught fire. The family in the other car was transported to an area hospital to be checked for injuries, but appeared to be okay.
The Dade County Coroner has not yet responded as to whether the name of the deceased has been released.
