UPDATE: Colbin Davis Identified as Person of Interest in Dade County Double Shooting; Manhunt Continues
DADE COUNTY, Ga. — A large-scale manhunt is expected to continue into Tuesday night as authorities search for Colbin Davis, identified by investigators as a person of interest in a double shooting that left two men critically injured in Dade County.
Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross says Davis is the brother of one of the shooting victims and may be armed.
The shooting was reported around 10:30 Tuesday morning in the 400 block of Michaels Road near the Alabama state line.
According to Cross, one man was shot in the head and another was shot in the leg. Both were reported in critical condition at a local hospital. One victim was transported from the scene by medical helicopter and the other by ambulance.
Search Expected to Continue Through the Night
Authorities do not currently know where Davis is located.
Cross said investigators have been working to determine whether the shooting was a targeted attack and whether Davis poses a threat to the general public.
Law enforcement is preparing to continue searching into the night until Davis is located.
As darkness falls, authorities plan to use thermal-imaging equipment from a helicopter to assist officers searching wooded areas.
Multiple agencies have joined the operation, including the Hamilton County, Marion County and Jackson County sheriff’s offices, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and SWAT personnel.
Earlier Tuesday, authorities focused part of their search on a wooded area behind the home where the shooting occurred.
Residents Urged to Remain Indoors
The Dade County Sheriff’s Office has urged residents in the Michaels Road area, from Highway 301 to the Alabama state line, to remain inside while the search continues.
Residents were also asked to immediately report anyone seen walking in the area who is not law enforcement.
Davis should not be approached if spotted. Anyone who sees him or has information that could help authorities locate him should immediately contact law enforcement.
