UPDATE: Murder Charge Filed After Victim Dies Following Dade County Double Shooting
Charges have been upgraded to murder following Tuesday’s double shooting in Dade County after one of the two victims died Wednesday morning.
The victim who suffered a gunshot wound to the head passed away Wednesday, according to the latest information released in the case.
The second victim, who authorities have identified as the brother of alleged shooter 28-year-old Colbin Quinn Davis, continues to recover from a gunshot wound to the leg.
Davis was captured late Tuesday night following an hours-long manhunt in the Michaels Road area.
Davis Found in Truck Near Shooting Scene
Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross said officers were returning to the Michaels Road residence and searching the area when they spotted someone sitting inside a truck.
“Just a few minutes ago some of the officers was going back to the residence, searching the area, and he happened to see somebody sitting in a truck and it was him,” Cross said following the arrest.
Davis was taken into custody after authorities spent much of Tuesday searching the Michaels Road area and surrounding woods.
Two Men Found Shot Outside Home
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Dade County deputies were dispatched around 10:30 Tuesday morning to a residence in the 400 block of Michaels Road following a report of a shooting.
When deputies arrived, investigators say they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds outside the residence.
One man had been shot in the head and the other in the leg. Both were transported to a regional hospital.
The man who was shot in the head died from his injuries Wednesday morning.
The other victim, Davis’ brother, continues to recover from his injuries.
Davis was initially wanted on two aggravated assault warrants in connection with the shooting. Following the death of one of the victims, the charges have now been upgraded to include murder.
Large Manhunt Followed Shooting
The shooting prompted a major multi-agency search across the Michaels Road area Tuesday.
Authorities warned that Davis should be considered armed and dangerous, and the United States Marshals Service offered a $4,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
Residents along Michaels Road between Highway 301 and the Alabama state line were instructed to remain inside during the search.
Davis Elementary School was also placed on a soft lockdown Tuesday as a precaution.
Area Schools Closed Wednesday
Dade County School Superintendent Josh Ingle announced that all Dade County Schools would be closed Wednesday, September 30, due to Tuesday’s events.
Ingle said school officials planned to meet with law enforcement Wednesday to develop a reopening plan for Thursday.
Across the state line in Jackson County, Alabama, North Sand Mountain School and Bryant School were also closed Wednesday for students, faculty and staff, according to the Jackson County Schools superintendent.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate the shooting.
