The Cherokee Regional Heritage Library System has announced the addition of a new tutor to its Time with Teachers tutoring program, a free educational initiative funded by the Frank P. Pierce Foundation.

Hunter Cousteau, a certified educator with experience teaching 9th Grade English, is the newest tutor to join the program. According to the library system, Cousteau brings two years of experience teaching high school literature and composition and specializes in helping students strengthen writing skills, reading comprehension, and grammar fundamentals.

The Time with Teachers program provides free one-on-one tutoring for students in Dade and Walker counties who are considered at risk of failing one or more subjects or who scored below proficient on the Georgia Milestones assessment. Tutoring sessions are conducted by certified or retired teachers and are offered at local library branches.

Library officials say the program is designed to give students individualized academic support in a welcoming environment while helping them build confidence and improve classroom performance.

Cousteau is passionate about helping students develop strong writing foundations, from creating effective thesis statements to organizing multi-paragraph essays. He also focuses on active reading strategies and grammar skills, emphasizing that every student can succeed with the right tools and support.

Parents and guardians interested in enrolling a student can register online by visiting CHRL.ORG and selecting “Time with Teachers” under the Services section. A video tutorial is also available to assist families with selecting a tutor, choosing a library branch, and completing the registration process.

Library leaders say they are excited to welcome Cousteau to the tutoring team as the program continues to expand educational opportunities for local students.
