Stevie Nicks has revived "Crying In The Night" — her 1973 Buckingham Nicks' classic-that-never was for her new concert album and movie — Live In Concert: The 24 Karat Gold Tour. The film will be available to stream — but not download — for just one week, from October 29th at 9 a.m. PT through November 5th at 11:59 p.m. PST.
During a chat with Variety, Nicks spoke about the track that opened her and Lindsey Buckingham's sole album as a duo, prior to joining Fleetwood Mac in late-1974: "'Crying In The Night' was probably written in 1970, maybe even before we got to Los Angeles. It’s one of the few songs from my way, way back past that I honestly don’t remember what it was about. I almost think I made up that story, because it kind of sounds like it’s written about like a streetwalker lady or some kind of a woman that’s homeless and living in the streets, but she’s still got people. As I’m singing that every night, when it goes, 'Come on, baby. . . she’s a come-on girl,' it’s like, well, who is she? I think she was just a fantasy character that I made up."
Although sidelined by the pandemic, Stevie Nicks promises she will undoubtedly be back on stage as soon as she can: "Absolutely. I’ve got more stories (laughs). More layers. So get ready. Yeah, of course. I mean, by that time, every single band in the whole world is just going to be going, 'hallelujah.' There are not going to not be enough stages in the world to hold all the bands that want to go on the road. So we’re going to have to all be very tricky to get into the venues."
When we last caught up with Stevie Nicks, she told us that plans are definitely underway to prep the long out-of-print 1973 Buckingham Nicks for its debut release on CD: ["We're going to try and put the record out. The only reason why it hasn't come out is because it kinda belongs to three different people and it's like owning a car, a third of a car. And everybody has to be on the same page and nobody has ever been on the same page.
