The accolades for Metallica continue to roll in, with the band's video for 1991's "Nothing Else Matters" surpassing one billion views on YouTube.
Blabbermouth posted: "The 'Nothing Else Matters' video, which was uploaded to YouTube in October of 2009, was directed by Adam Dubin and edited by Sean Fullan and is made up of clips from the 1992 Metallica documentary, A Year And A Half In The Life Of Metallica. The clip is perhaps best remembered for a scene where Lars Ulrich throws darts at a poster of Winger frontman Kip Winger."
The band has re-recorded the song with orchestrator James Newton Howard for use in Disney's latest summer blockbuster, Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne Johnson. Lars Ulrich told Collider, "James Newton Howard, the man, the myth, the absolute legend. . . It’s a very unusual morph in that it’s kind of his arrangement of 'Nothing Else Matters' that we’re playing. We wrote the song, but he took the song and rearranged it to fit something specific in the film — and obviously, I’m not going to give any of that away — but we then kind of took on his version of it. I think that’s all that should be said." (Collider)
Even though he's a family man and sober since 2001, guitarist James Hetfield told us a while back where he thinks the dark subject matter of his songs comes from these days: ["Well, I think a lot of this darkness is coming from actually seeing the light side. You know, you don't recognize what you have until you've almost lost it. The near death experience of Metallica during the (Some Kind Of) Monster movie was pretty profound, and I think when you notice that, it's easier to write about, 'Hey, we almost died.'
