Grohl, who hunkered down to write the book during the pandemic, touches upon all aspects of his life and career, sharing personal recollections about Nirvana, Foo FightersDavid BowieJoan JettIggy PopPaul McCartney, Tom Petty, AC/DC, and many more.

During a new chat with The Wall Street Journal, Grohl spoke candidly about looking back at his time in Nirvana and how he would address Kurt Cobain's 1994 suicide: ["Obviously Kurt was going to be part of the book in how important our time together was. So, it was a very short period of time from the time that I joined the band till the time that the band ended. It was about four years. I kind of knew what people wanted me to write, I kind of knew what people, kind of, expected me to write; but instead of doing that, I wanted to focus on a much broader emotional picture."] SOUNDCUE (:25 OC: . . . broader emotional picture)

Grohl explained he needed to find a way to talk about losing Kurt Cobain that revealed his true emotions surrounding his death: ["The chapter, in which I wrote about Kurt passing, that was the last piece I wrote, because I was, kind of, afraid to write it. I was, like, 'Oh my God — how am I gonna say this? How am I gonna do this? How can I put this into words?' And I decided to talk about grief, and mourning, and loss, and the process of healing. And how that's different with each person that you lose. And how that's determined. Is it determined by time or is it determined by the depth of the relationship?"] SOUNDCUE (:28 OC: . . . of the relationship)
