Trenton Police Department Issues a Scam Warning

SHARE NOW

Local businesses are getting phone calls from people claiming to be law enforcement. The person on the phone is requesting that you put money on a prepaid card and give them the card information. The caller is also asking for money to be transferred on apps like venmo or cash app. There is another person calling as a representative from the power company saying that you have a past due balance. The person then threatens that the power will be cut off if you do not make a payment on a kiosk.

Law Enforcement will never call and request a payment over the phone to clear any charges or warrants. If you get any calls requesting money especially by a prepaid card, you need to confirm the debt with the actual company before making any payments.

Please do not fall for these scams. If you do, you’ll likely never get your money back.
