Overnight Lane Closures Planned on I-24 in Marion County Through June as Rockfall Project Continues
MARION COUNTY, Tenn. — Motorists traveling on Interstate 24 in Marion County should prepare for overnight lane closures over the next several weeks as the Tennessee Department of Transportation continues work on its rockfall mitigation project near Monteagle.
According to TDOT, contract crews will perform a series of nighttime lane closures on I-24 West between mile markers 138 and 137 as work progresses on the project. The closures are needed to remove temporary traffic control devices, shift traffic back into its normal configuration, and complete paving operations throughout the corridor.
To minimize impacts on daytime travel, all work will take place during overnight hours.
Upcoming Lane Closure Schedule

- 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- Single-lane closures
- Crews will remove barrier walls and crash cushions while maintaining traffic flow through the work zone.

TDOT officials say drivers should expect reduced speeds, lane shifts, and possible delays while crews are working.
The department is encouraging motorists to allow extra travel time, remain alert in work zones, and slow down when approaching construction areas.
Officials also reminded drivers about Tennessee’s Move Over Law, which requires motorists to move over for highway workers, emergency responders, and other authorized vehicles stopped along roadways. Violations can result in fines of up to $500 and possible jail time.
Drivers can monitor travel conditions through TDOT’s SmartWay system or by dialing 511 for the latest roadway information.
The rockfall mitigation project is designed to improve safety along this heavily traveled section of Interstate 24 by reducing the risk of rockslides and debris reaching the roadway.
