At approximately 9:15am this morning, Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross was contacted by Dekalb County Alabama Sheriff Nick Weldon and advised that Alabama Units were in pursuit of a possibly armed suspect, heading towards Dade County on Sand Mountain.
Early information we received, was that the suspect pulled a firearm on a female in Alabama, Ider Police arrived on scene, and the suspect then fled law enforcement.
Dade County Sheriff’s Office units joined the pursuit coming down Sand Mountain on Highway 136.
Trenton City Police Department posted on Highway 136 in the area of Food Outlet and deployed spike strips, successfully striking the vehicle’s tires.
The suspect vehicle then became disabled and turned in to the Dollar General Store near the intersection of Pace Drive. The suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward Dade Middle School, with Dade County Deputies in foot pursuit.
Due to the circumstances and proximity of the suspect (and the possibility of the suspect being armed) Dade County Units advised dispatch to immediately place Dade Middle School on lockdown.
Dade County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Trenton Police Department Officers took the suspect in to custody within approximately 100 yards of the middle school.
The suspect is identified as Justice Michael Reeves (22) of Flat Rock, Alabama. He is facing charges in Alabama, as well as Felony Eluding in Dade County.
“This is yet another instance of multiple agencies working together to keep our community safe. Dade County Deputies, along with Trenton PD Officers and a few Trenton Firefighters, acted quickly to secure the suspect and prevent him from reaching the middle school. The safety of our community is the most important mission we have. Thank you to all my Deputies, the City of Trenton, our dispatchers, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Ider PD, and the Dade County School System for acting swiftly and producing the safest outcome possible!” -Sheriff Ray Cross
