The unemployment rate for the Northwest Georgia Region was down in the month of December with statistics for the year showing positive growth in the region.
A January 2024 press release from the Georgia Department of Labor shows that the unemployment rate was down one-tenth to 2.8 percent for the month with the rate at 2.9 percent one year ago. Locally for December, Dade’s unemployment rate was 2.3, Catoosa’s 2.4, Chattooga’s 3.5, Walker’s 2.8, with Whitfield’s at 3.5. While the labor force was down for the region during the month, for the year it was up by 6,042 to 436,780. Also up for the year was the number of employed. Up 6,296 over-the-year, to 424,465. Initial unemployment claims were down 3,416 (-47%) over-the-year, to 3,866.
The Northwest Georgia Region joined most of the Georgia’s Regions which saw a decline in unemployment in December. In three regions unemployment remained unchanged.
