Dade County Sheriff’s Office is welcoming 3 new K-9’s to the department.
K-9 Zeus is a male German Shepard and was purchased as a result of a grant that was awarded to the sheriff’s office, plus donations from our community members, as well as a donation campaign put on by DSCO personnel. K-9 Zeus will begin his training with his handler in the next couple of weeks, and will be on duty and in-service by December of this year.
K-9 Georgia is a female bloodhound, and she is the first bloodhound DCSO has ever had. Her primary role and responsibility will be tracking lost persons and fleeing suspects. K-9 Georgia is a local girl, born right here in Dade County, and she is already with her new handler at DCSO. She will begin her training very soon. K-9 Georgia was donated from a local breeder.
K-9 Thor is a male Belgian Malinois who was donated by a local citizen to DCSO. K-9 Thor is from a breeder out of Atlanta, and he is already placed with his DCSO handler. K-9 Thor’s early training has already started, and he’s full of energy like his breed normally implies.
These three 4-legged Deputies will join the already established DCSO K-9 Unit, currently being occupied by K-9 Tank and retiring K-9 Rocco.
“Police K-9’s play a crucial role in discovering crime, as well as deterring crime. These new additions will further our mission of stamping out illegal drugs, catching bad guys, and letting the criminals know that we mean business here in Dade County. We can’t thank our community enough for supporting our cause, and helping us get these K-9’s!” -Sheriff Ray Cross
