Dade County High School’s wrestling team, led by Coach Jeff Poston, embarked on a challenging journey to the Single A State Duals hosted by Heard County. Despite facing adverse weather conditions, the team demonstrated resilience, securing a victory against Irwin County with a score of 48-25 in their opening match. Their subsequent encounter with Social Circle, the eventual state champion, resulted in a 58-18 defeat, relegating Dade County to the consolation bracket.
Undeterred, Dade County faced McIntosh Academy on Saturday morning, triumphing with a score of 60-18. The victory ensured their place in the quarterfinals, where they faced Heard County and were defeated 42-30. Social Circle ultimately clinched the state title by defeating Mt. Pisgah 55-12 in the finals.
While the DCHS Wrestling team may not have achieved their desired outcome, their Elite Eight finish is commendable. Supporters are encouraged to attend the celebration this Thursday, January 25th at 5:30, where the team will compete against Fort Payne at home on senior night. The wrestlers remain focused on upcoming challenges, including Traditional Area, Sectionals, and State competitions.
