Dade County District 1 Commissioner Lamar Lowery passed away just before daybreak Tuesday morning. Lowery served citizens of the North Dade district on the County Commission for many years.

Tommy Lamar Lowery, age 65, of Wildwood, GA, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. His life was characterized by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering love for those around him.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 7th at 1:00 PM in the Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and Thursday from 11:00 AM until the service hour.

Lamar was born on May 4, 1959, to Tommy A. Lowery and the late Ann Foster Lowery. He dedicated many years of service as an electrician at Hutcheson Medical Center. His commitment to his community was evident through his long-standing service on the Dade County Commission, where he approached his duties with a deep love for his county and its residents. Lamar was willing to help others and made time to listen, whether people agreed with him or not. He was a member of Hooker Church of Christ and an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan.

Family was at the heart of Lamar’s life. He cherished his role as a proud “Grandpa,” ensuring that he spent quality time with his grandchildren and enjoyed traveling with his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Lowery; his children, Derrick (Christina) Lowery and Misty (Brevin) Cameron; his father, Tommy (Eileen) Lowery; his sister, Karen (Lamar) Hulvey; and his beloved grandchildren, Wyatt and Joe Daniel, Brady Lowery, and MaKenna and Barrett Cameron. He is also survived by his in-laws, Fred and Mary Rogers; uncle Doug (Diane) Foster; and aunts, Mary Faye Sill and Bessie Mae.

Lamar was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Lowery, along with his grandparents, R.C. and Juanita Foster, and John and Mae Lowery, as well as his aunt, Peggy (Jim) Price.

Lamar will be remembered as a friend to many, and his spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
