Dade County and surrounding area’s forecast calls for rain into Thursday night and a temperature of 9 degrees going into Friday morning. This is a recipe for one of the coldest freezes the area has had in decades.
Here’s how to make sure you and your family are prepared;
1) Block Out Cold Air
Window insulation film, storm windows/doors, and other ways to keep cold, chilling drafts out of your home can be simple steps to warm your home.
2) Check Gutters
In Winter, keeping leaf and water from piling up in your gutters can keep melting ice and snow from spilling into your attic or basement.
3) Prepare Furnace/Fireplace/Chimney
If you have a furnace, fireplace, or chimney; make sure it is inspected and ready to be a proper heat source during the cold weather.
4) Turn Off Exterior Faucets
Exterior faucets can often be an overlooked liability in freezing temperatures.
5) Stock Up on Necessities
Firewood, propane, emergency supplies, non-perishables, and water.
6) Check In on Elderly and Disabled Loved Ones
All of the above and more need to be performed for those who may not be able to do so themselves, or may need assistance. Call your loved ones!
