Despite COVID having its affect on the Dade County Commission, with
two members out due to illness, one of which, District 4’s Allan
Bradford who has remained hospitalized for over two week with the
virus, the board was able to make quorum and take care of business in
a somewhat shorter than usual monthly meeting.

The board was able to make three appointments at the March 4 meeting.
Dr. James Cantrell was appointed to the Industrial Development
Authority.  Stephanie Stacey Prater was appointed to the Northwest
Georgia Development Authority, and Carlton Stallings was appointed to
the Dade County Special Use Board.

Commissioner Phillip Hartline reported there was a number of touraments already booked this year at the Sports Conplex but still they have room, one weekend in May
and one in June are not booked .  With completion of
the work on the complex recently he stated that they were ready to
host all major softball events.

Commissioner Robert Goff and County Excetive Ted Rumley traveled recently to Atlanta and meet with the GA Department of Transpertation to discuss funding for the repair of County Road 6.

The GDOT commissioner sent staff to inspect
the roadway.  Upon inspection, GDOT agreed to pay 70 percent of cost
for repairs.  GDOT also noted they were impressed by the work the
County wa able to accomplish prior to approval of the funding.

The Commission also noted May 1 as Tire Amnesty day.  It was note that
it was limited to only 20 tires per resident and would not include
commercial vehicle tires of any kind.

The county’s financials appear to be in order according to Don
Townsend, County Clerk and CFO.  Despite recent expenditure exceeding
the planned budget there is still a surplus in the county’s fund.  He
reminded everyone that just like GDOT funding for the road repair once
they take into consideration the money received from the Federal
government for COVID relief the adjusted expense to the county was
well under what was budgeted and spent out of Dade’s coffers.
