Georgia Sets Employment Records as Northwest Georgia Unemployment Remains Low
Georgia’s labor market reached new all-time highs in both employment and the state’s labor force during July, according to numbers released Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor.
The state’s labor force climbed to a record 5,480,790, while the number of employed Georgians reached a record 5,301,774.
Georgia’s unemployment rate also declined to 3.3 percent, eight-tenths of a percentage point below the national unemployment rate. The state’s rate was also 3.3 percent one year ago.
In Northwest Georgia, unemployment remained relatively low. Catoosa County recorded the lowest rate among area counties at 3.2 percent, followed by Walker and Gordon counties at 3.3 percent.
Dade County’s unemployment rate was 3.4 percent, while Murray County stood at 3.6 percent, Whitfield at 3.8 percent and Chattooga at 4.2 percent.
Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes said Georgians are working at the highest levels of employment and labor-force participation in state history, adding that the record brings a responsibility to make sure Georgians continue to have opportunities to get ahead.
