A man has been charged with murder following a fight Sunday night in Bridgeport that left a 31-year-old man dead.
According to authorities, Bridgeport Police responded to a report of a fight on County Road 476 at approximately 8:13 p.m. Sunday.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man dead inside an apartment unit. The victim was identified as 31-year-old Casey Jones Foster.
Members of the Bridgeport Fire Department attempted to resuscitate Foster but were unsuccessful.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist Bridgeport Police with the investigation.
During the investigation, deputies located William Cordell Cagle. Authorities said Cagle admitted to assaulting Foster, and investigators allege the altercation resulted in Foster’s death.
Cagle was arrested and charged with murder. He was transported to the Jackson County Jail.
Foster’s body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
