After graduating a huge class of starters that included Connor Cash, Demitrius Walker, Carter Christiansen, Ryker Stanley, Gabriel Yarbrough, Jordan Castellanos, Bryson Shrader, Jace Anderson, and Evan Koger, just to name a few, the Wolverines are a little younger this year. They do return starters Evan Avans, Nate Hurst, kicker Carter Bradley, Jett Shavers, and H Garmany. The Wolverines look to bounce back this season. A season ago the Wolverines faced a tough schedule with good teams and tough region to play in.
The QB duties have been handed to Win Garmany, who is a sophomore this year. H Garmany has moved to wide Receiver and Nate Hurst also returns, giving Win Garmany some weapons. The offensive line is new this year as the previous line was made up of entirely seniors. Coach Andy Williams said that the good thing about the O-line is that they will all return next year. Coach Poston has taken over the offensive play calling this year with assistants Greg James and Andy Williams.
The Wolverine defense returns Evan Avans and Jett Shavers. H Garmany may see the defensive side as well considering he played corner last year. Jason Monday is back at the helm as the Defensive Coordinator. Coach Monday has posted five shutouts since he has taken over defensive play calling. The most recent shutout was last season against Lafayette, which ended 35-0 with a Wolverine win.
When Coach Poston was asked how he was going to handle being young this year he said, “We must find ways to put them in good situations. We still have some experience returning though.” The goal remains the same for Poston and the Wolverine team, and that is to win the Region Championship. The Wolverines look to get it done but still stand in a tough region.
The Wolverine schedule starts with a scrimmage against Warren County at Finley Stadium. The regular season begins with two road trips, beginning on a Thursday night road game against Ringgold. Followed by Trion. The Wolverines have their first home game against LaFayette and are off the week of September 5th. They host Christian Heritage after the bye and then travel to Fannin. After Fannin the Wolverines host Armuchee. They then travel to Gordon Lee followed by their second bye week. After the second bye the Wolverines host Coosa. They end the season with two road games at Chattooga and Gordon Central. Tune into 101.3 KWN or go to discoverdade.com to follow the Wolverine again this season.
