DADE COUNTY — An escaped pig caused significant traffic disruptions on Interstate 24 over the weekend, according to the Dade County Sheriff’s Office.
The pig’s owner reportedly lost the female animal Friday evening but did not take immediate action to recover it. Despite several calls reporting sightings of the pig, deputies were unable to locate it until Saturday morning.
Two deputies spent nearly an hour attempting to capture the pig, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Authorities believe the pig was reluctant to return, possibly sensing it had been abandoned by its owner.
The situation was ultimately resolved when an off-duty deputy happened to pass by the scene. The deputy managed to corral the pig by sweeping it off its feet in the highway median and assisted in securing the animal.
Traffic delays eased shortly after the pig was safely captured. No injuries were reported during the incident.
