During August’s meeting of the Dade County School Board, various updates were provided. These updates include the progress of a project involving the construction of a hitting facility, a state rule change for the Milestones test, staffing and safety issues with transportation, the implementation of LED lights in buses, efforts to improve community and tourism development, and healthcare services provided by a local healthcare organization. The meeting also discusses the agreement between the school systems and communities for the development of modular buildings on school campuses, the sliding fee program for low-income and uninsured patients, and the services provided in school clinics. Additionally, the meeting covers grants received, a change in the annual DC trip for seventh and eighth graders, and options for payment and insurance for the trip.

During the Public Input portion of the meeting, a softball parent spoke, expressing concerns about the condition of the softball field and hitting lanes, which were filled with weights from the outside workout facility. This area has been utilized by weight training classes for all students. Now, the upstairs part of the DCHS gym is utilized for the new hitting lanes for softball. However, part of the concern for relocating the weights to the hitting facility included male students using the weights as females changed clothes in the fieldhouse. The parent also pointed out that the gym is not an ideal location for proper softball hitting practice. She then pressed for quick solutions and expressed the desire for parents to be involved in the process.
