T-SPLOST, Sells Lane Property on Agenda for July Dade County Commission Meeting

The Dade County Commission will look to put two long-standing County issues to rest this Thursday during their regularly scheduled July meeting.

A 1% Transportation Special Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) has been a divisive issue for many years in Dade County. There are more than two sides to each issue, but as the commissioners have stated in previous meetings, the issue can be boiled down to having a larger budget to complete projects that Dade County desperately needs, such as repaved roads; by simply adding a one-penny tax to purchases in the county. Resolution R-45-22 will call for a ballot referendum to add T-SPLOST to the ballot on November 8th.

Three resolutions on Thursdays agenda also regard the much-debated property that was purchased jointly by the Dade County Commission and the Dade County Water and Sewer Authority in 2018 for the purpose of constructing, maintaining, and operating a water reservoir project in Dade County. In an intergovernmental agreement on Thursday, the County is planning to accept assignment of all remaining rights and obligations of the GEFA loan, including paying or satisfying the remaining balance, from the Water Authority- in exchange for the rights, title, interest, and possession of the property.

As a reminder, all County Commission meetings are open to the public. The above-mentioned workshop will take place on Thursday, July 7 at 6:00 in the County Commission Building, with the meeting following at 7:00pm.
