Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced its 2022 "Global Stadium Tour." The 32-date European and North American trek kicks off on June 4th in Seville, Spain and includes a 19-city North American run which kicks off on July 23rd at Denver's Empower Field at Mile High and winds down on September 18th in Arlington, Texas at Globe Life Field.
Depending on the night, opening for the band across the North American shows will be the Strokes, HAIM, and Thundercat. General public tickets go on sale Friday, October 15th at 10 a.m. local time.
The band — Anthony Kiedis, Flea, John Frusciante, and Chad Smith — once again appeared in a new a sketch parodying a 1970's local news broadcast to announce the tour.
The key to the Chili Peppers remains the bond shared by frontman Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea. Not too long ago we asked Kiedis to sum up what it is about his friendship with Flea that has inspired all this incredible music: ["Oh, I don’t know because I’m a little too deeply in the forest to really see the trees like that. I can tell you how it hasn’t changed. We still love each other with all of our hearts. Like with any long-term, intimately close friendship like that, you have a lot of highs and lows and this is just one of those marriages that persists."] SOUNDCUE (:30 OC: . . . marriages that persists)
Flea spoke with us and recalled the band's early days making their bones in L.A.: ["Y'know, when the band first started, it was this wild energy that we couldn't control. It was just like bursting through us, y'know? We couldn't even control it, it was like it just had to happen. It was like there wasn't any choice in the matter. We just had to do it, and it just gave birth to this thing that has lasted all this time."] SOUNDCUE (:16 OC: . . . all this time)
