Paul McCartney has just uploaded a new 14-song Spotify playlist on his official PaulMcCartney.com site. Every month McCartney posts a new tracklisting with a specific theme — with January spotlighting songs that "inspire change and hope for brighter days in the year to come."
The collection keeps up with the one-man-band vibe of the current McCartney III album — including a trio of tracks from the new set; along with five more culled from 1970's McCartney and 1980's McCartney II. Chosen for the playlist's closer is 2014's "Hope For The Future," which was written for and included in the video game Destiny.
Like his previous "screen hits," McCartney explained that he deliberately composed "Hope For The Future" to have a life beyond its intended project: ["I tried to figure out where it was to appear in the game and I wanted to get something that would work just if you heard it alone, and the idea of the video game is basically, y'know, you as the gamer have got to save mankind from the aliens. So I though 'I'll use that as a kind of symbolic thing and make it into something that would apply to our situation here now. So, we need some hope for the future. How much can we achieve? So that's what I did and I based it around that so it would work for the two situations."] SOUNDCUE (:33 OC: . . . the two situations)
