Journey’s Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain have settle a particularly contentious lawsuit with their ousted rhythm section — co-founding bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith. Last year, Schon and Cain have fired Smith, announcing the exit of the two musicians for an alleged attempted "coup d'état" of the band's corporation entity Nightmare Productions, in hopes of securing control of the Journey name.
Rolling Stone posted the announcement citing the lawsuit between the two parties had come to an end, reporting, "The members of the band Journey who were parties to a recent lawsuit are pleased to announce that they have resolved their differences and reached an amicable settlement agreement. Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain acknowledge the valuable contributions that both Ross Valory and Steve Smith have made to the music and the legacy of Journey."
The statement went on to say, "Ross Valory and Steve Smith wish their former bandmates well and much success in the future. Journey looks forward to continuing to tour and make new music for their dedicated fans around the world."
Back in 2017, it didn't look like Journey would survive the growing public rift between Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain — with fans bracing themselves for the end of the band at any minute. Jonathan Cain told us that ultimately, the two partners buried the hatchet and re-devoted themselves to the band's cause: ["It was hard. It was hard to watch. But, again, I think time heals all things and, y'know, you move on. And I love this band too much and I think in the end, we all have to just tolerate and get along, y'know?
