Two Candidates Emerge for District 53 Senate After Mullis Declares He Will Not Seek Re-Election

Qualifying for the May elections began Monday morning and lasts until noon on Friday. Soon after, word spread that long-time senator Jeff Mullis was not going to be seeking re-election this year.

For the Senatorial election for District 53, two candidates already have stepped forward for the seat; Steven M. Henry of Ringgold, who stepped down from his position as the Chairman of the Catoosa County Board of Commissioners to run; and Colton Moore of Trenton, who previously failed to unseat Mullis two years ago.

As of Monday afternoon, the list of District 53 qualified candidates are as follows:

Within Dade County, the qualifying candidates are as follows: For the District 1 Commission seat – Incumbent Lamar Lowery, and Chris Wade , Patrick Hickey for the District 2 Commission seat held by Phillip Hartline, and Daniel Case, incumbent for the District 1 School Board seat.
