The State of Georgia’s Yellow Dot Program is providing drivers with a simple but potentially lifesaving way to communicate important medical information to first responders during emergencies.
The free program is designed primarily with senior citizens in mind, but officials say it can benefit anyone with a pre-existing medical condition, allergies, or medications that emergency personnel should know about following a crash or medical emergency.
Participants in the program receive a yellow folder containing a blank medical information sheet. Drivers are asked to fill out the form with details including emergency contacts, current medical conditions, medications, insurance information, and physician contact information. The completed form is then stored in the vehicle’s glove compartment.
To alert emergency responders that the information is available, participants place a yellow sticker on the rear driver’s side window of their vehicle.
In the event of an accident or medical emergency where a driver may be unable to communicate, first responders can look for the Yellow Dot sticker and quickly access the medical information stored inside the vehicle.
Program organizers say the initiative can help emergency personnel provide faster and more accurate treatment when every second matters.
The Yellow Dot Program is available at no cost and is intended to improve communication between drivers and emergency responders during critical situations.
