Dade County Commission to Consider Authorization of School Tax Collection Today
The Dade County Commission will hold a special called meeting this afternoon to consider authorizing the collection of 2026 property taxes for the Dade County School System.
The meeting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, August 25th.
The action follows Monday’s vote by the Dade County Board of Education approving a 2026 school millage rate of 14.530 mills.
The new rate is one mill higher than last year’s 13.530-mill rate. It is also 1.380 mills above the calculated rollback rate of 13.150 mills.
According to the resolution going before county commissioners, the school system estimates the 14.530-mill rate will generate approximately $9.48 million in property tax revenue for Dade County Schools.
The additional revenue comes as the school system works to address its budget deficit and higher operating expenses, including increased employee health insurance costs.
