5:27 PM ***Update***
From New Home Fire Chief Dennis Kelley:
“(The wildfire) is controlled and contained. The rain will put out any embers that might be left. Georgia Forestry is getting their equipment and everything loaded to head home; some of them with long trips back.
There were thirty (emergency workers) between Georgia and Tennessee, plus equipment. They fought all night and today against the wind, and it still kept it contained and got it out. 200+ acres were burned.”

Georgia and Tennessee Forestry divisions have been working diligently through the night alongside Dade County Fire Departments; Namely the New Home Fire Department on the outbreak of a wildfire in the areas around Stallings and Scratch Ankle road. According to New Home Fire Chief Dennis Kelley, the fire has currently been contained and all structures are safe.
Kelley warns the public to stay clear of the area: “Multiple vehicles” have blocked the routes of emergency crews with specialized equipment. “It’s a narrow road, and you can’t see the edge of the bluff.” Kelley warned, in fear that a well-intentioned member of the public may injure themselves or others. Wildlife in the area is also said to be scared and erratic, so take severe caution if you cannot help but find yourself in that area.
According to Kelley, the structures in the area are currently safe. Wind conditions can change that status, but currently the breaks that the teams working have put into place have kept it contained. Georgia Forestry currently has crews en route to stand by in case that situation changes.
