LADY WOLVERINES PUNCH TICKET TO COLUMBUS!

Dade County’s Lady Wolverines are ranked #2 in the State and have not lost a game since August 19 when they opened the second round of the GHSA State Playoffs at Trenton Tuesday night. On the cool evening, the Lady Wolverines (26-2-1) took on the youthful Cook County Lady Hornets (21-5)  from Adel in the first game. The two teams battled to a 2-2 tie into the 10th inning before the Hornets took a 2 run lead 4-2 on a long homer run that banged of the scoreboard in left field by SO Krisley Arnold with one aboard to excite the Cook County faithful. Cook would take the lead into the bottom of the 10th and  Dade still had their last at bat and Coach Stephen Graham’s squad was not going down without a fight.

SR Stella Henry reached on an error and drove home SR Emma Heard and brought up JR Ali Thompson who doubled home Stella to tie the score.  Following a fly out, JR Kaitlyn Stinnett grounded sharply and another error by the Cook infield brought home Ali to the delight of the huge crowd watching the playoffs.

In the second game, the Lady Wolverines were the visitors and opened up with 3 runs in the top of the first but Cook would answer with 3 of their own in the bottom of the first.  Dade would put up 3 runs in the 2nd  and 3rd innings to surge to a 9-3 lead as SR Kami Counts held the Hornets scoreless until the 6th when they would put up 3 more runs but by that time Dade led 12-3 and would close out the game with a 16-7 win.

Dade now moves on to Columbus and the GHSA AA State Softball Championships in Columbus next Thursday. The Wolverines will play Union County from Blairsville on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Union County was the 2nd seed out of Region 8 with a record of 13-9 and advanced to Columbus by sweeping Toombs County Tuesday night 9-4 and 13-7.  All games from the State Tournament will be carried live on 101.3 FM & 1420 AM along with the WKWN app free in your app store.
