Henagar, AL — A high-speed chase spanning Dekalb and Jackson Counties ended Monday afternoon with the arrest of a Henagar man after a dangerous pursuit involving reckless driving and attempted assaults on law enforcement officers.
On June 16, 2025, deputies from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) attempted to stop a gray Chevy Tahoe traveling at high speed on County Road 85 near County Road 112. The vehicle, driven by 28-year-old Nathaniel Kyle Toney of Ider, was without a license plate and refused to yield, sparking a pursuit.
Toney reportedly sped through several county roads, including County Roads 112, 116, 616, and 122, reaching speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. Deputies temporarily lost sight of the vehicle, but Sylvania Police soon located it again, prompting additional law enforcement units to join the chase.
According to DCSO, Toney ran multiple stop signs and made aggressive maneuvers, including attempts to ram patrol cars, placing the public and officers in serious danger. Near the intersection of Highway 75 and County Road 122, deputies attempted a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to prevent Toney from entering the highway. Although forced off the road, Toney regained control, caused damage to nearby property, and tried to strike a deputy’s vehicle before fleeing once more.
The pursuit ultimately crossed into Jackson County, where Toney crashed at the intersection of County Roads 122 and 59. He was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
Searches of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia, and authorities say Toney was driving with a revoked license. He now faces multiple charges, including felony Attempt to Elude, attempted assault on a law enforcement officer, reckless endangerment, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, along with numerous traffic violations.
No injuries were reported during the chase.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office thanked all participating agencies for their coordinated response and reminded residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
