Dade County, GA — The recent relocation of the Greyhound bus stop from Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Wildwood, Georgia, has stirred significant concern among Dade County officials and residents.
The new stop, which officially began operating on November 10, 2023, is situated at a gas station along Highway 299, just off Interstate 24. Though technically on private property, the stop has become a source of public scrutiny due to a noticeable uptick in disturbances and community impacts.
Sheriff Ray Cross reported a surge in calls related to the new location, citing incidents where Greyhound drivers have had to eject unruly passengers, leaving law enforcement to respond. “We’re seeing more and more issues here,” said Sheriff Cross.
The County echoed these concerns, stating that while the county is working with federal representatives to monitor the situation, there is limited recourse under current circumstances.
Local residents and business owners have also been affected. Mohammed Mughel, owner of the gas station hosting the stop, said he’s made efforts to accommodate passengers by providing clean restrooms and seating areas. However, he has also experienced increased traffic, congestion, and issues such as shoplifting.
For some travelers, the move is a welcome change—especially those living in Dade County and nearby rural areas. But for others, the isolated location presents challenges. With no Uber or Lyft service in the area, many passengers are left relying on scarce taxi options or walking long distances.
Community leaders continue to seek a solution, but for now, the Greyhound stop remains in place—bringing with it both convenience for some and concern for many.
