Georgia waterfowl hunters are getting ready for the opening of duck season, which begins Saturday, November 21, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division.

The state has also scheduled a special early waterfowl hunting opportunity November 14th and 15th for youth hunters, active-duty military members and veterans.

Youth ages 15 and younger, along with active military personnel and veterans, may hunt certain migratory birds during the two-day early season. Eligible species include ducks, Canada geese and mergansers. Youth hunters must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years old, although only the youth may hunt.

The regular duck season will be divided into two segments: November 21st through the 29th, and December 12th through January 31st.

Wildlife officials say this year’s second season segment extends several days later than in previous years, providing additional late-season hunting opportunities.

Hunters are reminded that a Georgia hunting license, Georgia migratory bird license and federal duck stamp are required.

The DNR also offers a Waterfowl Hunter Package through its Go Outdoors Georgia website, which includes the required licenses.
