State Representative Mike Cameron, who won re-election over Georgia’s House District One (including Dade and parts of Walker County) appeared on the K-WIN Today program this Tuesday, December 20th.
During his appearance, Representative Cameron spoke upon the upcoming session in Georgia’s House where there will be a new House Speaker. Speaker David Ralston died at age 68 in November due to an extended illness. Ralston had been the longest sitting House Speaker in the entire United States, having served the State of Georgia in the House of Representatives since 2002. Prior to his House tenure, Ralston had served in the Georgia State Senate from 1992-1998.
The new session for the House of Representatives starts January 9th. Representative Cameron will be entering his Sophomore term. With redistricting, Representative Cameron will be adding Lafayette to his representation. According to Cameron, the House will be trying to give the people of Georgia some of their money back in tax relief from the $6 Billion in overages. Along with this priority, the House hopes to tackle mental health issues; specifically in the criminal circuit.
