Superintendent Josh Ingle made his regular appearance on the K-WIN Today program during the Newsmaker’s Segment.
While on the program, Ingle was asked about the accusations that were levied by Commissioner Philip Hartline regarding the School Board’s decision not to move forward in the rebuilding of Davis School, despite having promised the public to do so three years ago; “It’s been three years,” Hartline stated. “Their ESPLOST has went up, our property taxes have gone up, and (the school board) hasn’t rolled any of that back…. It’s not right.” Hartline continued that the school board also hasn’t brought it up at any of the meetings. Hartline stated that, having fought for the tearing-down of the school himself, he was passionate about building his district’s elementary school back for the people he represents.
Superintendent Ingle stated; “What I know about it is that the local school board has not taken any action at this time. Other than that, I really don’t know what else to add to that.”
“I know what was said at the commission… The board has not taken action toward the construction at this time.”
When asked if he knew the time frame for reconstruction or a decision, Ingle stated that he did not know of one at this moment. “Of course we do have a school board meeting coming up this Monday (November 14th).”
Ingle elucidated that the decision to tear down and reconstruct the area was made prior to the pandemic. At the time it was decided by the community that, though some did not want to see the old building torn down, it was more cost-effective to do so that to renovate the structure.
“As far as moving ahead, our architect has drawn up several plans. After the board reviews the plans, it seems like each time the prices (continued) to rise,” stated Ingle. He confirmed that, as far as a vote in how to move forward, nothing has taken place.
The Dade County School Board will meet on Monday, November 14th at 5:00pm. That meeting is open to the public.
