DADE COUNTY FY 2027 BUDGET PROCESS MOVES TOWARD FINAL ADOPTION
TRENTON, Ga. — Dade County officials continue work on the Fiscal Year 2027 budget as commissioners prepare for public review and final consideration later this month.
County Executive Don Townsend, Chief Financial Officer Rebecca Jones, and county department heads began the budget process in March by reviewing departmental requests, operational needs, expenditures, and revenue projections for the upcoming fiscal year.
At the June 4 meeting of the Dade County Board of Commissioners, Jones presented the first draft of the proposed budget. Officials say the document remains a working draft and will continue to be updated as additional financial information becomes available.
Current projections show a budget shortfall of approximately $700,000. County officials say much of the deficit is being driven by a 21 percent increase in employee health insurance costs, along with rising fuel prices and higher contracted service expenses.
Commissioners will continue reviewing revenue projections and spending recommendations over the coming weeks before taking final action on the budget.
Residents will have an opportunity to provide input during a public hearing scheduled for Thursday, June 18th at 10 a.m. at the Dade County Administration Building.
A special called meeting to consider final approval of the Fiscal Year 2027 budget is scheduled for June 30th at 10 a.m. If approved, the new budget will take effect July 1st.
County officials encourage residents to review budget documents and participate in the public hearing process.
