Dade County Among Areas Eligible for Federal Farm Aid Amid Drought Conditions

DADE COUNTY, GA — Farmers in Dade County may be eligible for federal assistance as drought conditions continue to impact agricultural operations across the region.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture, in coordination with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has designated Walker County as a primary natural disaster area due to ongoing dry conditions. Because Dade County borders Walker, it is included as a contiguous disaster county, making local farm operators eligible to apply for emergency loan assistance.

The designation allows qualified producers to seek support through the USDA’s Farm Service Agency, helping offset losses and maintain operations during a challenging growing season.

Agriculture officials say the prolonged lack of rainfall is placing significant stress on crops and livestock, increasing production costs and creating uncertainty for farmers across Northwest Georgia.

The disaster declaration is designed to provide much-needed relief and help sustain farm operations in communities like Dade County, where agriculture plays a vital role in the local economy.

Farmers interested in applying for assistance are encouraged to contact their local Farm Service Agency office for details on available programs and eligibility requirements.
