During December’s meeting of Dade County’s Board of Commissioners meeting, there were a few changes to local governmental boards. In the Industrial Development Authority, Larry G. Moore II was appointed to fill the seat previously held by his father, Larry Moore. Lamar Lowery recommended Allen Townsend of Wildwood, GA to the District 1 seat of the Water & Sewer Authority, replacing Dr. William H. Pullen Jr. who had held the seat since replacing his father, who held the seat before him.

The Commission tabled the motion regarding funds for maintenance on the local fire department’s defibrillator equipment.

During his report, Executive Ted Rumley addressed the long-awaited paving that has been happening in Dade County, saying that money has had to be “put back and put back.” Rumley reported that T-SPLOST will likely be readdressed on an upcoming agenda. “Like it or not, it’s one of the fairest taxes you can have,” said Rumley. According to the Executive, the counties where T-SPLOST has past will “likely not have an unpaved road” by the end of their work, including roads that “you’d never thought would be paved.” Rumley suggests that the public become informed in the upcoming months as to how the program can save the county, as it will likely appear on an upcoming ballot, though he did not know how long that would take. As a reminder, Rumley informed that this could possibly lower the millage rate in the county; as it will not only be Dade County residents charged the tax, but everyone who comes through. According to Rumley, this could allow the county to move funds that are set aside for road work to other projects.
