On Monday, March 24th, Greg Brown was approved by the school board as a teacher and coach at Dade County High School. During his interview, Coach Greg Brown stated, “If you look at my resume I haven’t skipped from job to job, I was the head girls coach at NW Whitfield for seven years and I have been at Jefferson for seven years. I want to take this job because I’m ready to come home.” DCHS administration began the task a couple weeks ago searching for a head coach to take over the Lady Wolverines Basketball program.
Greg Brown graduated from Dade County High School in 2000. He had several years of assistant coaching experience at TN Temple Academy and NW Whitfield before taking over the head coaching job for the Lady Bruins. One fact that immediately jumps out on Coach Brown’s resume is that he is a proven winner. He has accumulated 327 wins as a head coach including 23 at Tennessee Temple Academy, 149 at NW Whitfield and 155 at Jefferson High School. The Lady Wolverines have averaged nine wins in the last five seasons.
One characteristic that stood out to the interview committee was his confidence as a coach. He has high expectations for his student-athletes in the classroom and on the court. Another characteristic was his attention to detail. He cares about the little things that lead to success. “You don’t begin to focus on those little things during the regular season, you focus on them day one, at practice, during the off season.” Coach Brown summed up his excitement to come home in this statement, “I’m ready to get to work!”
His work begins this Wednesday evening. When we asked Coach Brown who he’d like to have in the gymnasium this Wednesday as he is introduced as the Lady Wolverines Head Coach, he stated, “anyone and everyone who wants to be involved in our program”. If you are a female athlete who has played basketball at any level and you would like to be involved in the girls basketball program, we want to invite you to the Wolverine Den at DCHS this Wednesday evening at 5:00. Parents, you are welcome as well.
