The Dade County Board of Education has accepted the resignation of the principal of Dade County High School amid an ongoing investigation that has prompted the involvement of law enforcement and state agencies.
In a letter released Friday, October 30, Dade County Schools Superintendent Josh Ingle confirmed the resignation and announced that the matter has been referred to the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC), which oversees educator certification and professional conduct.
The announcement comes one day after the Dade County Sheriff’s Office reported an increased law enforcement presence at Dade County High School while investigating a complaint. At that time, authorities emphasized that the investigation did not involve violence or threats of violence and that all students and staff were safe.
In his letter to families and staff, Ingle described the week’s developments as deeply troubling and emphasized the district’s commitment to protecting students.
“This week’s events have been deeply troubling. Let me be clear: Our students’ safety and well-being are our highest priorities,” Ingle wrote. “Any conduct that exploits, harms, or violates the trust placed in an educator is unacceptable and directly opposes the values of our school district.”
Ingle confirmed that the Board of Education accepted the resignation following action taken Friday.
The superintendent also stated that the referral to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission is required under state law.
As the school moves forward, Vic Grider will serve as the point of contact for Dade County High School. Grider and Chastity Steadman will provide leadership and support for students, faculty, and families during the transition.
The district is encouraging anyone with information relevant to the investigation to contact the Dade County Sheriff’s Office.
“If you see something or know something that could help investigators, please report it,” Ingle stated. “Do not assume someone else has already shared the information.”
Ingle thanked the Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation for their professionalism and cooperation.
He also pledged that the school district would continue working closely with investigators as the case progresses.
“Our district will continue to cooperate fully as the investigation proceeds,” Ingle wrote.
The superintendent concluded his letter by reaffirming the district’s responsibility to provide a safe and supportive learning environment.
“Dade County Schools has a proud tradition rooted in character, and we have a responsibility to uphold the trust our families place in us,” Ingle stated. “Our commitment to that responsibility is unwavering.”
