Go beyond the surface and discover the ancient story beneath your feet during a special geology program at Cloudland Canyon State Park.
Georgia State Parks will host “Going Deep: A Geologic Journey into Cloudland Canyon” on Thursday, Aug. 27, beginning at 10 a.m. The program is designed for those interested in learning more about the fascinating rock layers and minerals that make up one of Georgia’s most scenic natural landmarks.
Participants will meet at the park’s Interpretive Center before driving to the Lower Sitton Gulch Trailhead for a guided, moderate one-mile hike through the canyon floor. Along the way, a Georgia State Parks naturalist will explain how millions of years of geologic activity shaped the towering cliffs, unique rock formations, and breathtaking landscape found within Cloudland Canyon.
The program lasts approximately 1 to 1½ hours and is ideal for geology enthusiasts, hikers, and anyone curious about the natural history of the region.
Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring water, and dress appropriately for the weather.
