Dade County to Hold Property Tax Hearings Thursday as Digest Growth
Dade County residents will have two opportunities Thursday to weigh in on the county’s proposed 2026 property tax millage rate, as growth in the county’s tax digest is expected to generate additional revenue even with the unincorporated rate remaining unchanged.
The Dade County Board of Commissioners will hold public hearings at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday, August 13, in the Commissioners’ Public Meeting Room at the Dade County Administrative Building, located at 71 Case Avenue in Trenton.
Unincorporated Rate Would Remain at 7.5 Mills
The county is proposing to maintain the unincorporated millage rate at 7.500 mills, the same rate adopted in 2025.
However, Georgia’s required rollback rate for the unincorporated area is 7.277 mills. Keeping the rate at 7.500 mills is therefore considered a 3.06% property tax increase over the rollback rate under Georgia law.
County Digest Continues to Grow
According to the county’s five-year tax digest history, Dade County’s overall net tax digest has continued to increase.
The county’s combined net maintenance and operations property tax collections are projected at approximately $5.68 million for 2026, an increase of about $318,500, or 5.94%, over 2025.
Third Hearing Set for August 20
Thursday’s hearings will be the first two opportunities for residents to address commissioners on the proposed rates.
A third public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, August 20, at 4 p.m. at the Dade County Administrative Building.
The county’s published tax digest notice states that commissioners are scheduled to meet afterward to set the final 2026 millage rates.
All concerned Dade County residents are invited to attend the public hearings and provide comments on the proposed property tax rates.
