SBA Offering Disaster Loans for Drought-Impacted Businesses, Including Dade County

DADE COUNTY, Ga. — Small businesses and nonprofit organizations in Dade County and across the region impacted by ongoing drought conditions may now be eligible for federal assistance.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is offering low-interest Economic Injury Disaster Loans to help offset financial losses caused by the drought that began December 30, 2025.

Eligible applicants include small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, nurseries, aquaculture operations, and private nonprofits—including faith-based organizations. However, the program does not cover traditional agricultural producers, farmers, or ranchers.

The loans are designed to help organizations meet financial obligations that may have been disrupted by drought conditions. Funds can be used to cover expenses such as fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills that could not be paid due to economic impact.

Loan amounts are available up to $2 million, with interest rates as low as 4 percent for small businesses and 3.625 percent for nonprofits. Repayment terms can extend up to 30 years, depending on eligibility.

In addition to Dade County, the disaster declaration covers several surrounding counties, including Walker, Catoosa, Murray, and Whitfield in Georgia, along with multiple counties in Tennessee including Marion and Hamilton and one in North Carolina.

Officials encourage eligible businesses and organizations to apply online through the SBA. The deadline to submit applications is December 10, 2026.

Local leaders say the program offers an important opportunity for businesses and nonprofits to recover and remain stable as drought conditions continue to impact the region.
