The Dade County Library is taking part in the Cherokee Regional Library System’s celebration of America 250 with a yearlong lineup of programs, reading opportunities, and community events designed to connect residents with American history and culture.
The nationwide America 250 initiative commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and local libraries across Walker and Dade counties are taking part through themed activities and educational programming.
At the center of the celebration is the Georgia Reads for America 250 Reading Challenge, which encourages readers of all ages to explore books highlighting the American experience. Curated reading lists will be available at all four branches throughout the year.
The Dade County Library will host several America 250-themed events in partnership with the American Legion, including themed trivia nights and hands-on workshops focused on American history and traditions.
Additional programs planned across the library system include storytimes, author visits, historical presentations, creative workshops, and seasonal activities that connect national history to local communities.
Other featured events throughout the Cherokee Regional Library System include a month-long “Create an American Quilt” community project at the Chickamauga Library, a Pilgrim history presentation and summer showing of Hamilton at the LaFayette Library, and a Cherokee history and traditions youth program at the Rossville Library in partnership with Native American Services of Tennessee.
“America 250 gives us a way to bring history into everyday life at the library,” said Library Director Lecia Eubanks. “By offering programs throughout the year, we’re creating simple, meaningful ways for people of all ages to connect—whether that’s through reading, hands-on activities, or shared experiences.”
Residents are encouraged to visit the Dade County Library and other local branches to sign up for the reading challenge and learn more about upcoming events connected to the America 250 celebration.
