Dade County Officials Urge Caution as Snow Creates Hazardous Road Conditions

SHARE NOW

Dade County Emergency Management is urging residents to use extreme caution while traveling Saturday morning as light snow continues to impact road conditions across the county.

According to officials, a light, dry snow had fallen by 6:45 a.m. Saturday and was present on roadways, particularly in valley areas where the snow is blowing off roads as vehicles pass. However, conditions are significantly more dangerous on Sand Mountain and Lookout Mountain, where colder temperatures are causing snow to stick to road surfaces.

Emergency management officials warn that roads in higher elevations are slick and hazardous, with the potential for additional snow accumulation as snowfall continues throughout the day.

Motorists who must travel are advised to drive slowly, allow extra stopping distance between vehicles, and remain alert for changing road conditions. Officials strongly encourage residents to stay home if travel is not absolutely necessary, noting that conditions are expected to worsen as snowfall continues.

Residents are urged to monitor local updates and take necessary precautions to stay safe during the winter weather.
