As winter weather continues to impact the tri-state area, Dade County officials have announced the opening of community warming shelters to provide residents with a safe place of comfort during the potential winter storm.
Three FEMA-approved community shelters will open on Saturday, January 24, at 12:00 p.m. and will remain open until officials announce their closure. All shelters are operational and equipped with generators, allowing them to remain functional during power outages.
The warming shelter locations are as follows:
-
Dade County Sports Complex
9622 U.S. Highway 11
Trenton, GA 30752 -
South Dade Community Shelter
265 School Street
Rising Fawn, GA 30738 -
Sand Mountain Community Shelter
249 Davis School Road
Trenton, GA 30752
According to forecasts, moisture and precipitation are expected to overspread the area Saturday afternoon and evening. As colder air filters southward, rain is expected to transition into freezing rain, creating hazardous conditions. Officials warn that widespread impacts could develop Saturday night due to ice accumulation, with the possibility of gusty winds.
County officials strongly encourage residents to remain at home if possible during the storm and to limit travel to essential needs only.
Residents are urged to stay informed through official Dade County communication channels for updates regarding shelter operations and changing weather conditions.
