The Georgia Department of Transportation has completed a series of major infrastructure projects across Northwest Georgia, including a significant bridge rehabilitation effort along Interstate 59 in Dade County.

The Dade County project involved rehabilitation work on multiple bridges along I-59, a critical freight and commuter corridor for the region. The $4.9 million investment is expected to improve safety, extend the lifespan of the structures, and ensure smoother travel for motorists passing through the county.

Transportation officials say the completion of the I-59 work marks an important milestone for Dade County, where interstate traffic plays a key role in both local mobility and regional commerce. All work has been completed and the bridges are now fully open to traffic.

The Dade County improvements were part of a broader GDOT effort that recently wrapped up five major transportation projects throughout Northwest Georgia. In total, contracts for the projects exceeded $51 million.

The largest of the five projects was the $26.8 million Villa Rica Bypass in Carroll County, which provides a new truck route between State Routes 101 and 61 to divert heavy traffic away from downtown Villa Rica and reduce congestion.

Additional projects included the $9 million replacement of two bridges on State Route 136 over the Coosawattee River and a nearby tributary in Gordon County, an $8.5 million bridge replacement on State Route 293 over Dykes Creek in Floyd County, and a $1.8 million bridge replacement on Rehoboth Road over Spring Creek, also in Floyd County.

GDOT officials say the completed projects reflect the agency’s ongoing commitment to improving roadway safety, reliability, and traffic flow across Northwest Georgia, with Dade County’s I-59 upgrades standing out as a key investment in one of the region’s most heavily traveled corridors.
