A Dade County–issued “Be on the Lookout” alert led to an officer-involved shooting Saturday in neighboring Alabama, leaving a Virginia woman injured after a multi-agency pursuit, authorities said.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), special agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation have launched an investigation into the shooting, which involved a trooper assigned to ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:29 p.m. on Interstate 59 near the 201-mile marker in DeKalb County. ALEA said law enforcement was attempting to locate a vehicle that had been reported out of Dade County.

Deputies with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office spotted the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. ALEA said the driver refused to stop, prompting a pursuit. Troopers with ALEA and officers with the Collinsville Police Department joined the chase.

The vehicle later became disabled, but ALEA said the driver continued to refuse commands from law enforcement. During the encounter, the driver — identified as 48-year-old Amy Marie Schulte of Virginia — was struck by gunfire.

Schulte was transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital for treatment. Her condition has not been released.

ALEA said no officers were injured during the incident.

No additional details have been released, as the investigation remains ongoing. Once completed, the findings will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office. DiscoverDade will provide updates as more information becomes available.
