Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Early Morning Crash on I-24 Near Tennessee–Georgia Line

New details have been released regarding the fatal wrong-way crash that occurred Wednesday morning on Interstate 24 near the Tennessee–Georgia state line.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a BOLO (“be on the lookout”) alert had been issued shortly before the wreck after reports came in of a vehicle traveling the wrong direction.

Investigators say the vehicle involved was a Chevrolet van that was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-24. The van struck a Volvo tractor-trailer head-on, killing the driver of the van. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Dade County Sheriff’s Office originally responded to the crash near the 1-mile marker, noting multiple vehicles were involved and confirming the fatality.

Cause Still Unknown

Authorities have not yet determined why the driver was traveling the wrong way, and the investigation remains ongoing.
