If you’ve been looking for a good reason to spend some time on the water, here it is! National Fishing and Boating Week is happening from June 1 to June 8, and Georgia is making it even easier to join in with two Free Fishing Days.

On May 31 and June 7, you won’t need a fishing license, trout license, or Lands Pass to fish on any public waters in Georgia. It’s the perfect chance to grab your rod and reel and head to your favorite lake, river, or pond.

Scott Robinson from Georgia’s Wildlife Resources Division says fishing and boating are great ways to relax and connect with family and friends. Plus, every time you buy fishing gear or boating fuel, you’re helping support conservation efforts.

National Fishing and Boating Week started back in 1979 as a way to celebrate fishing traditions and get people—young and old—excited about fishing.

There are lots of fun events planned across the state for families, so check out the calendar online. And if you can’t make it outside, no worries! Kids can join in from home with fun games, crafts, and videos at the Angler Academy website.

Whether you’re casting a line on a big lake or fishing from the bank at your local pond, Georgia has plenty of great spots to explore. Check out one of the 11 Public Fishing Areas or a nearby state park and get out there!
